I keep seeing guys skip the chalk line on long cuts
They eyeball it or just use a speed square, but on anything over 4 feet, that's asking for trouble. I had to re-cut three 12-foot 2x12s last Tuesday because the guy before me didn't snap a line. Does anyone else enforce this on their crew?

Used to think it was overkill until I had to fix a 10-foot deck joist. Now I make everyone snap a line.
