My 20-year-old DeWalt miter saw finally gave up the ghost last Tuesday, mid-cut on some crown molding.

I'm looking at replacements, but honestly, I'm torn between just getting the same model again or trying a sliding compound miter saw for bigger capacity, what do you all think works best for finish work?

Man, a slider is overkill for crown. Stick with a standard compound saw, you'll get cleaner cuts.

Sliders can get a little sloppy for fine trim. A good compound miter saw is plenty for crown.

My DeWalt 12-inch slider has been dead-on for crown for years. The key is a solid fence setup and sharp blades, @rowan_butler93. I get cleaner spring angles with the extra cutting width a slider gives on wider molding. A good compound miter works, but a well-tuned slider offers more control for complex cuts.
