Pro tip: check your material list twice before you leave the yard, saved my whole Friday
Last Friday I picked up a big load of 2x6 cedar for a deck job in Portland and got back to the site only to find the yard had shorted me 14 boards. Instead of driving back across town and burning two hours, I called the yard and they sent a truck out with the missing pieces plus a few extra in under an hour. The homeowner was cool about it since we still got the frame up by 4pm, but I was sweating it there for a bit. Now I count every bundle before I sign the ticket, no matter how busy the yard is. Has anyone else had a yard pull that on them, and do you make them load it or do you load your own?
I used to just sign the ticket and roll out, figured the yard guys knew their stuff better than I did. Then a buddy got shorted 8 sheets of plywood on a big remodel and ate the cost because he didn't notice until the next morning. Now I stand right there and count every lift while they load, even if it holds up the line a bit. Takes five minutes and saves me a whole lot of grief later.
