Rant: a finisher in Toledo told me my 45s were "proud as hell" and I rebuilt how I cut crown
About 4 months back I was hanging crown in a dining room in Toledo and the finisher walked by, set his coffee down, and said "your 45s are proud as hell, you're cutting to the tip every time." He wasn't wrong. I had been nailing the tip of the point on outside corners for close to a decade because it looked tight on the miter saw. He had me mark off the short point instead and back-cut the inside corners by about a 16th. First two rooms after that I caught myself measuring wrong out of pure habit. Now I cut a test corner out of scrap poplar before I touch the good stuff, every single job. Cost me 10 minutes a room and saved me a whole afternoon of filler and caulk. Anybody else get taught the short point thing or was I just raised wrong on this?
