Saw a new way to handle trim at a job site in Austin
I was helping a friend with a kitchen remodel in Austin last month. The lead carpenter showed me how he cuts all his trim pieces with a 2 degree back bevel on the miter saw. He said it helps the joints stay tight when the wood moves. I tried it on a window casing project this week and it worked way better than my old method. Do you guys use any small angle tricks like that for trim work?

Heard about a similar trick from a buddy who frames houses. He was helping his uncle install baseboard in this old, drafty farmhouse and nothing was staying put. They started cutting the top edge of each piece with just a one degree bevel so it would pull tight to the wall when nailed. Said it made a huge difference on that uneven plaster. Always stuck with me as a smart fix for problem walls.
