Shoutout to the old timer in Tulsa who told me to quit sanding across the grain on pine
I was burning through 80 grit pads and fuzzing up every face, and he had me go with the grain at a 15 degree angle and the tearout just quit. Anyone else get taught this the hard way or was it just me?
Wait, was he having you go at 15 degrees off the grain line the whole time or just for the rough pass? I always thought you had to switch to straight with the grain once you hit 120 or so, so I'm curious if he kept that angle through all the grits. And did he say anything about which way the grain runs on the edge vs the face? That part always messes me up on pine because it changes direction on you. Feels like the kind of thing that only clicks when somebody stands over your shoulder and shows you.
