The day I stopped using a speed square for every angle cut

For years I'd pull out my speed square for even a 5 degree cut on trim, but after I had to do 80 rafter tails on a single garage roof in Phoenix last summer, I finally switched to a digital angle finder and saved about 3 hours. Has anyone else stuck with an old habit way too long just because that's how they were taught?

Three hours saved on one job doesn't prove much.

i actually have to disagree with you on this one @emma768. three hours saved on a single job adds up fast if you're doing that kind of work regularly. like if you do two or three similar jobs per week, that's basically an entire extra workday back in your pocket over a month. it's not just about the one job, it's about the pattern of time you can recover.
