Am I the only one who got called out for stretching carpet the wrong direction?
A guy with 30 years on me watched me lay a Berber in a 12x15 bedroom in Akron last Tuesday and said I was pulling it crosswise, which he claimed would ripple at the seams within a year. I switched to pulling into the corners the way he showed me and the seams sat flat for once, but now I'm second guessing every room I did before that. Does anyone else stretch toward the corners or do you still go wall to wall?
The part about second guessing every room you did before really hits home. That is just how it goes when you learn something new after years of doing it your way. It happens in cooking, in driving, in raising kids. You find out one better way and suddenly your whole past looks wrong. But the truth is you were doing fine work for years or people would have complained. This one guy had a trick that fixed a real problem, so take the win and move on. The rooms you already did are done and most of them are probably sitting just fine.
