Appreciation post: the stretch bar trick a old timer showed me last Tuesday

I was dead set on using a knee kicker for every room until I overheard a guy at the supply house talk about how he stretches 12 foot seams with just a power stretcher and a single pass. He said most installers waste 15 minutes per room fighting wrinkles because they don't set the bar at a 45 degree angle. I tried it on a 20x15 room in a house near Springfield and it cut my time by almost half. Now I'm rethinking all the shortcuts I thought were gospel. Has anyone else switched up their technique after hearing one solid tip from a stranger?

Man I saw my buddy Jake run into the same issue on a job in Muncy last month. He tried that 45 degree trick too and the carpet bunched up real bad about halfway through the room. Turns out the old timer forgot to mention you gotta kick the bar forward just a little before you put the full weight on it. Like a tiny adjustment to get the carpet to relax first. Jake had to redo the whole stretch and it took him twice as long as normal. He was pretty fired up about it for a week.

Hold up, did he say anything about how you set the initial tension on the bar before you angle it? I tried the 45 degree thing last week on a rollout and the first few feet felt fine but then the carpet started pulling weird near the wall. Wondering if I'm missing a step about the anchor point or something
