Bought a $250 carpet knee kicker that bent on my third stretch job, and I want my money back
Picked up a cheap power stretcher from a guy on Marketplace for $250 back in April, and it snapped a pin on the third bedroom I used it in, so I finished the job with my old kicker and a lot of cussing. The seller stopped answering texts the same day, and now I'm out the cash plus a wasted Saturday in Aurora. Has anyone found a decent used stretcher under $400, or should I just save up and buy new?
Back in 2019 I bought a used Roberts stretcher off a guy in Naperville for $180 and told everyone used was the only way to go, but that cheap Marketplace stuff burned me twice now. The problem is you never know how many jobs a guy put on it before you got there, and the pins and tubes wear out in ways you can't see in a parking lot. My $180 one lasted four jobs before the tail piece cracked, and I spent more fixing it than the thing cost. After that mess I stopped hunting for deals and just put the money toward a new one, because at least you get a warranty and you know nobody dropped it off a truck. So my honest take is save up and buy new, even if it stings, because two used ones plus your lost Saturday already cost more than new would have.
