DAE ever get a job where the tack strips were just glued to the floor?

I was working on a redo in a 1970s split-level over in Springfield last week, and the old carpet was stuck down with what felt like a whole gallon of adhesive. When I pulled it up, I found the tack strips weren't nailed at all, someone just globbed construction adhesive under them. It took me and my helper an extra two hours to scrape that mess clean. Has anyone else run into this kind of shortcut, and what's your best method for dealing with it?

Glued tack strips are the home improvement version of using duct tape for everything. It's like the person who did it saw a hammer and thought "nah, too much work". My best method is a sharp floor scraper and a deep hatred for whoever left that mess. You just know they were patting themselves on the back for being so clever, too.

That's not a tack strip then, it's just a wood strip. Tack strips need the nails to grip the carpet.

People cut corners everywhere now, not just on tack strips.
