I finally gave in and tried that double-sided tape trick for transitions
My buddy Frank, who's been doing this for twenty years, kept telling me to use a strip of double-sided carpet tape under the metal track for floating floors. I always thought it was a waste of time, but on a job last month in a drafty old house, the transition kept popping up. I tried it his way, and it hasn't budged since. Anyone else have a simple fix they swore was dumb until it worked?

That "simple fix they swore was dumb" thing is so real. My cousin laughed at using a wax paper trick for a sticky drawer, but it slides like new now. Sometimes the old ways just work.

Totally get it. I once used a bar of soap on a squeaky hinge while my roommate watched like I was performing dark magic.

That "simple fix they swore was dumb" hits hard. So what was the actual reaction from your cousin after the wax paper worked? Did they finally admit you were right or just change the subject? It drives me crazy when people laugh at a trick and then act like it was no big deal when it actually fixes things. I feel like that happens way too often with stuff our grandparents used to swear by.
