Old-timer in Daytona showed me a trick I still use every day
About 15 years ago I was working a big commercial job in Daytona Beach. There was this older installer named Frank who had been doing carpet since the 70s. I was struggling with a tricky seam near a doorway and he just walked over, pulled out a small hook blade I had never seen before, and had it perfect in about 30 seconds. He didn't say much, just handed me the knife and said "keep that one close." I still carry that same style blade in my pouch to this day. Anyone else have a seasoned installer share a simple tool tip that stuck with you?

Ngl @umabailey, a curved blade bends differently under pressure, it's not just preference.

Oh man, that hook blade is no joke. I've got a question for you though. Did Frank ever explain why he chose that specific blade over the standard ones? I ask because I've seen guys swear by the curved ones for doorways and others say a straight blade is better for tight spots. I'm trying to figure out if there's actually a difference or if it's just personal preference that gets passed down like a secret handshake. Because I've used both and honestly I can't tell if one is truly better or if it's just what you get used to.
