Old timer told me to always stretch carpet in the same direction as the pile
Ignored him on a job in Cleveland last month and now there's a visible seam line I can't fix without pulling it all up, so has anyone else learned that lesson the hard way?

3 years back I put down 400 feet of berber in a condo downtown. Old guy told me the same thing and I figured I knew better since I had been doing it for 8 years already. Ended up with a seam that looked like a river running through the room. Had to rip up 3 full rolls and start over. Cost me a weekend and about $600 in wasted material.

Oh come on @jesse_cooper, a river? That sounds a bit dramatic. Are you sure you weren't just being too hard on yourself? I've seen seams that look way worse than people think they do.
