Overheard a guy at Flooring Expo say to always pre-pad your seams
I was walking the aisles at the Flooring Expo in Dallas last week and caught this older installer telling a new guy to always put a strip of padding under the seam before cutting. He said it stops the backing from curling on the cut edge and makes the seam glue grab way better. Has anyone else tried this trick or do you just run your seams on the bare floor?

I hear what that guy was saying but I've been doing this 15 years and I don't pre-pad my seams. If your floor is prepped right and you use good glue the backing shouldn't curl anyway. Seems like an extra step that slows you down for no real gain.

Pre-padding is absolutely worth it. Saves you from those little edge curls that show up later. Might slow you down a little but it saves a callback every time. Seen too many jobs where the glue just didn't hold up over time.
