That one glue down job in a basement that took 6 hours instead of 2

I got called to a basement remodel last month, concrete slab looked fine from the door. Walked over and found the floor had this old black mastic residue that wasn't scraped right. Tried to lay carpet over it and the glue wouldn't stick at all. Ended up spending 4 extra hours grinding the whole thing down with a cup wheel and then priming it. Has anyone else run into hidden floor coatings that ate up your whole day?

Oh my goodness I have been there. Had a job where someone painted the concrete with an oil based sealer before I showed up, and the glue just beaded up no matter what I did. Ended up using a shot blaster from the rental yard instead of my grinder and it saved me a ton of time on that hidden coating.
