The day I realized my seam tape was the problem, not my knife technique
Been installing carpet for 8 years in Phoenix, and I always had trouble with seams in doorways splitting open after 6 months. One day a rep from a supply house watched me work and asked why I wasn't using iron-on tape for those spots. Now I'm wondering - how many of you use iron-on tape for doorways vs sticking with the peel-and-stick stuff?

Actually iron-on tape isn't meant for doorways either, it's for seams in open areas.

Man oh man, why does every supply house guy wait until you're 8 years in to drop this gem? Like, hey thanks, I only been fighting with split seams since Obama was president! I'll give you this though, he was onto something about the tape type. I had the same problem with peel-and-stick in doorways during Phoenix summers. That stuff just cooks off and lets go. Now I use a good hot melt tape with a seaming iron for those high traffic spots and it actually holds.
