Bought a banned book bundle for $85, got 3 reprints and zero originals

I ordered a 'rare censored literature' set from an online seller last month, supposedly first editions of books banned in 1980s South Africa. Showed up with watermarks from a library in Ohio and obvious scan marks. The seller ghosted me after I sent photos. Spent $85 on what are basically photocopies with fancy covers. Has anyone else gotten burned buying 'banned editions' off marketplace sites? Where do you actually trust to find legit copies?
