Bought a banned book off eBay for $80 and it was completely worthless

I paid $80 for a copy of 'The Rebel' by Camus that was supposedly banned in China. Turned out it was just a cheap photocopy with missing pages. The seller ghosted me after I complained and eBay wouldn't help because it was an international order. Has anyone else gotten ripped off trying to buy censored books from shady sellers?

You say "completely worthless" but what did you really expect for $80 from some random seller on eBay? That's the price of a dinner out, not some rare banned book. International order, cheap photocopy - sounds like you got exactly what you paid for. If you wanted a real copy you should have done your homework first. People selling banned books aren't running Barnes & Noble. They're taking a risk so you don't have to.

Yeah but a bad photocopy is just trash. My buddy bought a "rare" concert tee online once, ended up with somebody's old gym shirt.
