I saw a censored Ai Weiwei exhibit in Berlin last year
They had to cover up a few pieces with black cloth, which made me look up why. Anyone know of other artists who've had shows altered like that?

So what was the official reason they gave for covering them? Like, did the gallery put out a statement or was it just super vague?

Wait, has anyone else here actually seen a censored exhibition in person? It's wild how much a black cloth can change the whole vibe of a room. @cameron684 I get what you're saying about the attention thing, but for me it felt more sad than anything. Like the artist put all that work into making a statement and then someone just throws a blanket over it. I really feel for artists who get silenced like that, it must be crushing to have your voice taken away mid-show.

Honestly seems like standard gallery stuff to me. Tbh the cover-up probably got more attention than the art would have alone.
