Just realized a 1984 book club group got shut down in my town 3 years ago
My library had a tiny banned books discussion group that met in the back room. A parent complained about the sex scene in 1984 and the whole thing was canceled after 2 meetings. Has anyone else seen local reading groups get targeted like that?

That's wild but also not surprising lol. A parent got upset about the sex scene in 1984 at a library down the road from me a couple years ago. The librarian tried to explain the book's about surveillance and propaganda but they wouldn't hear it. Guess Orwell predicted that too, just with more thought police and less angry moms at city council meetings.

Parents just see the one thing they think is scandalous. They miss the entire point of the book.

Cut right to it: what was the scandalous thing they latched onto, and did they even read past that part? Cause it sounds like they checked out after one page.
