PSA: The film version of 'The Handmaid's Tale' is way more direct than the Hulu series after reading both

I compared the 1990 movie to the TV adaptation and the movie doesn't dance around the political control at all. The scenes where women are stripped of their names hit harder in 108 minutes than across 5 seasons. Has anyone else found the older version cuts through the censorship better?

The 1990 movie definitely wastes no time getting to the point, I'll give it that. But the TV series gives you more room to breathe and actually feel the slow creep of losing your identity. Like, show Offred has time to have real relationships with other handmaids and remember her old life in a way the movie just skips over. Fast and direct doesn't always mean it hits harder.

Agreed. The movie's bluntness really stayed with me. @the_charles has a good point about the slow burn though.
