My buddy Marcus in Reno told me to stop putting 'kys' in game chat and just use 'skill issue' instead
Got a 72 hour mute on Steam about a year ago for typing 'kys' after a bad Overwatch match, and my buddy Marcus in Reno said the mods there auto flag that one phrase no matter the context. He said swapping it for 'skill issue' slides right through their filter since it reads as trash talk, not a threat. Been using it for maybe 10 months now and I have not caught a single mute, so he was right on the money. Anyone else got a replacement phrase that works for them when the original one keeps getting you slapped?
Imagine needing a whole rebrand just to tell someone they got outplayed, Marcus sounds like a genius loophole lawyer for trash talk. Keep it simple though, eventually the mods catch on and then you're back to square one with nothing clever left to say.
The real problem with swapping phrases is that you are still typing something at the guy, and that is what actually gets you reported, not the words themselves. Nobody reports "skill issue" because it stings less, so it never hits a mod queue in the first place. The filter is only half the story, the other half is whether the person on the other end feels like complaining about you. Marcus found a phrase that does not make people mad enough to hit that button. But here is the thing nobody brings up, the system watches your account history too, so once you have a mute on your record the next report gets looked at way harder. You have been clean for 10 months which is cool, but that old flag does not just go away. If a mod ever pulls your file they see the kys thing from a year ago and the new stuff starts looking like a pattern instead of a one off.
