Got a call for a blocked flue in an old farmhouse near Augusta, the brush got stuck halfway down.

I was working on a 1920s brick chimney with a really narrow flue, maybe 8 by 8 inches. My 10-inch poly brush got wedged on a big mortar bulge about 15 feet down. I mean, I had to rig up a pulley system with some extra rope from the truck to pull it back out without damaging the liner. Has anyone else dealt with a tight spot like that and found a better brush type?

Sounds like your brush found a new career as a permanent chimney ornament.

My old vacuum cleaner did the same thing last year, it sucked up a whole sock and just gave up. The motor made this awful grinding noise for a week before it died. I had to buy a new one, which was such a pain. Some appliances just decide to retire in the weirdest ways.

Oh man, that sounds rough. My buddy had a similar thing happen with a metal brush in an old clay tile flue, it hooked on a broken tile edge. He ended up having to feed a smaller brush down from the top to kinda nudge it loose, took him hours. Made me think of @lily97's vacuum just quitting, some jobs really fight back.
