Heard a roofer say chimney caps are just for looks, nearly lost it
I was on a job last Tuesday in Portland and this roofer guy tells the homeowner that a chimney cap is basically just decoration. I had to bite my tongue. Dude clearly never saw a nest of critters or a flue full of leaves after a storm. Anyone else run into tradespeople who talk about stuff they don't actually work on?

Oh wait was this in Portland like near Hawthorne? Because I swear I saw a guy trying to sell a "chimney cap installation special" on a card table outside a hardware store last spring. He had like zero tools with him just a clipboard. I bet it was the same dude.

My buddy actually paid that guy sixty bucks to "inspect" his chimney and never saw him again.
