Hot take: stop telling new sweeps to buy a $400 camera before they know a brush from a rod
Last month a kid fresh out of a 2 week class in Cleveland showed up to a job with me and pulled out a $400 wifi scope he bought because some guy on YouTube said you cant sweep without one. I have been doing this 11 years and I still find most blockages with a $30 flashlight and a mirror, so I told him to leave the camera in the truck and we cleared the flue in 20 minutes. So when did this trade decide that fancy gear beats time on a roof, and who exactly is selling that idea?
Buddy of mine runs a sweep company out in Ohio and had the same thing happen, new hire drops like $500 on gear before his first solo job. Guy cleared a nasty chimney with a flashlight and a brush in half an hour while the camera sat in the truck the whole time. All that youtube hype is just people trying to sell stuff to folks who don't know any better yet.
