Pro tip: Tried that new rotary whip on a clay flue in Providence, and the old flat wire brush still beats it
Last week I ran a 6 inch rotary whip on a clay flue in Providence that had about a quarter inch of glazed creosote, and it just polished the stuff to a shine instead of cutting it. Two days later I went back with my grandfather's flat wire brush on the same flue and took the glaze down to bare clay in maybe 40 minutes. I think the whip is fine for light soot, but for the hard glazed stuff it leaves too much behind. Am I wrong about the whips, or are you all seeing the same thing on clay liners?
