Showerthought: I found out how many fires start from dryer vents

I was reading a fire safety report from our city's fire department website last week. It said that over 15,000 house fires each year in the US start from clogged dryer vents, not chimneys. I always knew they were a risk, but I never realized the number was that high. It made me start offering to check them during my regular sweeps. Do you guys check dryer vents too, or do you stick to chimneys only?

Honestly think those dryer vent fire stats get way overblown every time this topic comes up. Most people clean their lint traps and that's good enough, the whole vent cleaning thing feels like a scare tactic to sell extra services. Focusing on chimneys makes way more sense because a chimney fire can burn your whole house down in minutes, not just smolder in a laundry room. I'd rather you guys stick to what you know best instead of trying to be a one stop shop for every possible home hazard.

I used to think the vent cleaning was just a scare tactic too, but my neighbor's laundry room caught fire last month from a clogged vent.
