That's brutal. My buddy had a similar thing happen with a moisture meter that claimed to be waterproof. Lasted about a week.

Waterproof claims can be really misleading, @hannaho52. A lot of those ratings only cover fresh water and not much else. It's a common trick that gets a lot of people.

So why don't companies actually test these things in real conditions? I used to defend those waterproof ratings, thought people just weren't reading the fine print. But @shanewells is right, it's sketchy how they sell you on a rating that barely holds up. My own chimney cam died after one morning of condensation, not even full rain. Now I always check for independent reviews about moisture issues specifically.
