A Chinese calligraphy teacher told me my brush strokes were all wrist and no arm

I took a class at the Shanghai Art Museum back in 2018, thought I was doing fine copying some characters. The instructor, old guy named Mr. Wang, watched me for about 30 seconds and said 'you write like you're signing a check.' Then he showed me how the whole movement comes from the shoulder, not just the fingers and wrist. Felt awkward for a week but my lines got way steadier. Has anyone else had a teacher call out a basic habit you didn't even notice?

Did your friend feel super stiff at first too? A buddy of mine took a pottery class and the teacher told him he was "throwing like a robot" and it messed with his whole vibe for weeks before he got it.
