Got totally lost trying to find a specific hutong in Beijing last summer

I was near the Drum Tower with a paper map, trying to find a friend's place in a maze of alleys, and my phone died. Ended up asking a local shop owner for directions, and he walked me three blocks to the right spot. Do you think it's better to rely on tech or old school maps when exploring cities in China?

Oh man, a paper map saved me in Shanghai once.

@barbara278 I read that paper maps can't get hacked like phones can.
