Had to choose between a 3-hour bus ride or a 2-hour high-speed train to get to Suzhou

I picked the bus to save 80 yuan, but the highway was under construction and it took over 5 hours. Anyone know a reliable carpool app for that route?

I always took the bus to save money until a trip to Hangzhou turned into a seven hour nightmare. Now I just bite the bullet and get the train ticket. For carpool, I've had decent luck with Didi Hitch on that route.

That's just how it goes with cheap travel, you trade time for money. The bus always looks good until you're stuck in traffic for half a day. Sometimes the extra cost is just paying for your sanity back.

Yeah that's totally it @thomas291, you're describing the whole "cheap now, pay later" loop that's everywhere these days. It's not just travel either, I see it with people buying cheap shoes that fall apart in two months or going for the budget phone plan that dies on you when you need it most lol. The bus thing is like the ultimate example though. You think you're being smart with your money but then you're stuck on some highway for four extra hours and suddenly that 20 bucks you saved feels real stupid. It's like the universe charging you an idiot tax for trying to cut corners. People always learn this lesson the hard way once or twice before they finally accept the upfront cost.
