Had to pick between Guangzhou and Chengdu for my 3 month stay, went with Chengdu

I had 90 days off work and a cheap flight into either spot, so I picked Chengdu over Guangzhou because a guy at my gym said the pace there is way slower and the food is cheaper. Six weeks in and I'm paying about $4 for a huge bowl of dan dan noodles near my place in Wuhou, but wow the humidity is no joke compared to what I expected. Did I mess up skipping Guangzhou, or is Chengdu really the better call for a longer stay?
