Just changed my mind about Chinese tea ceremonies after talking to a coworker

I always thought those fancy tea ceremonies were just for tourists until Li from accounting invited me to her family's table in Shanghai last week. She showed me how each pour has a meaning, like the first rinse is for waking the leaves and the second is for sharing with ancestors. Has anyone else had a local explain something that completely flipped your view on a tradition?
