Last month my SIM card got frozen at a train station in Xi'an

I was in Xi'an for a business trip and tried to top up my Chinese number at a self service kiosk. The machine took my cash but the credit never showed up, and when I asked for help the staff said my number was flagged for unusual activity. Turns out the registered name on the SIM didn't match my passport exactly, so they froze it for security. I spent 4 hours going between the carrier store and the police station to get it sorted. They finally fixed it after I showed my original visa and a copy of my hotel booking. Has anyone else had their number locked over a name mismatch? What did you have to do to get it back? I'm thinking of just switching to a dual eSIM for next time, but not sure if that avoids this issue.

Tbh I'm honestly shocked they made you go to the police station over a name mismatch, that's wild. Four hours for something that should be a five minute fix, I'd be losing my mind.
