My first time using a Chinese prepaid card for train tickets

I always thought buying tickets through WeChat or Alipay was just for locals and too complicated for foreigners. Last week I finally set one up with my passport at the Guangzhou station and booked a high speed rail ticket to Shenzhen in about 3 minutes. Has anyone else been slow to try this and what finally made you switch?
