Remember when my uncle told me to learn Chinese by watching TV shows?
Back in 2017 my uncle in Shanghai said I'd never get the tones right just from books. He was totally right - I spent 6 months drilling from a textbook and still sounded like a robot. Has anyone else found that listening to 家常菜 cooking shows helped them more than any class?

The cooking shows are gold. I picked up so many phrases just watching 舌尖上的中国 lol

Ngl I read somewhere that cooking shows actually work better for learning than regular TV because the dialogue is more repetitive and tied to what's happening on screen. Makes sense when you think about it.
