Spent a whole day in a Guangzhou market and nobody tried to scam me once

I went to this big electronics market in Guangzhou last Saturday, the one near the train station. I was sure someone was gonna try to sell me a fake battery or overcharge for me. But every seller I talked to was straight up about prices, one guy even told me not to buy a certain cable because it would break in a month. Has anyone else felt like the smaller markets are more honest than the tourist spots?

That train station market is actually full of fakes though.

My buddy bought a "vintage" leather jacket there last month, swore it was a steal at $60. Took it home and the lining had a dry cleaning tag from Target inside it. Same guy also grabbed a "handmade" ceramic mug that had a sticker on the bottom saying "Made in China" under the price tag he peeled off. He hasn't been back since.
