I always scrubbed my whitewalls with a stiff brush, then a guy at a car show in Fresno set me straight
I figured a stiff bristle brush was the only way to get years of grime out of the whitewalls on my 55 Bel Air, and I'd been doing it that way since I bought the car. At the Fresno show last month, an older guy pointed at the fine scratches all over my sidewalls and said "son, you're sanding your own tires." He told me to use a soft tire brush with some mild soap and warm water, then dry them right away so nothing soaks in. Two weeks in and the walls already look brighter, with none of that chalky haze I'd just accepted as normal. Has anyone here tried the soft brush thing on really old dried out whitewalls, or is there a better way once they're already cracked?
