My grandpa swore by baby oil on chrome and I laughed at him for 2 years
Back in 2021 I picked up a '66 Mustang with dull bumpers and my grandpa kept telling me to rub baby oil on them, which sounded like the dumbest thing I'd ever heard. Then a guy at a swap meet in Amarillo watched me fight with a $19 tin of polish for 40 minutes and handed me a bottle of cheap baby oil, and the chrome came back in about 5 minutes with zero white residue in the pits. So what's the catch here, does it attract dust or mess up a real wax job later?
Used to roll my eyes at the old timer tricks too, figured baby oil was just something cheap that made you feel like you did something. Then I tried it on a crusty bumper myself and felt like a fool for all the hours I wasted with paste polish. From what I can tell it does pick up dust a bit faster, so just wipe it down before you wax over it and you're fine.
