Tried diesel oil to quiet my lifters in a 289 and now my garage smells like a truck stop in July
Figured 10w30 with a quart of ATF would flush the gunk out in about 50 miles, but it just smoked and ticked louder. Anyone got a real fix for noisy lifters on a old small block, or am I pulling the intake anyway?

Swore by ATF flushes too, until it killed my 350.
