I finally found a simple way to cut down my food waste without those expensive gadgets
I started keeping a jar in the fridge for vegetable scraps and putting them in a freezer bag once it's full, then using them for broth whenever I have enough. Has anyone else tried something this low-tech that actually made a dent in their trash?

Wait, did you see that viral tweet a while back about the friend who kept a scrap bag in the freezer for like six months and then got really excited to make broth, but when she finally boiled it all, it came out tasting like dirty dishwater because she forgot to wash the carrot peels? Yeah, that was my coworker's roommate. She said she spent the whole evening filtering sediment out of this sad, murky liquid. I mean, the idea is fine in theory, but you gotta sort out the stuff that actually tastes good and maybe don't throw in the onion skins unless you want brown water. Idk, maybe it's just me but I bet most people end up with a science experiment in their fridge instead of a money saver.

Is this really that big of a deal to most people though? I mean, how much veggie scrap broth are you actually going to make compared to what you throw out? It sounds like a lot of effort for maybe a quart of soup stock every few weeks. I just toss my scraps in the regular trash and it barely fills a bag each week anyway. Unless you're cooking gallons of stock every week, this seems like a lot of work for almost no payoff.
