My compost bin turned into a total fly magnet last month

Honestly, it was so bad in my backyard in Phoenix I almost gave up. I added a layer of dry leaves and turned it every other day, and it cleared up in a week. Anyone else have a simple fix for a stinky compost pile?

Fly magnet is a bit dramatic, right? It's just a pile of rotting food outside. Adding dry stuff and turning it is basic compost care, not some magic fix. People act like a few bugs mean the whole system is broken.
