My composting bin overflowed during a heatwave and I had to rethink everything

We had three days straight of 95 degree weather here in Austin last June and my backyard compost pile turned into a stinking, slimy mess. Flies were everywhere and my neighbor actually complained about the smell coming over the fence. I ended up digging out the soggy layers, mixing in dry leaves and cardboard, and building a separate bin for kitchen scraps only. Has anyone else dealt with a compost pile going bad in the heat What worked for you to fix it

Grant's right about turning it more often; I do mine every other day in a heatwave just to keep the rot from setting in.

Just a heads up, mixing kitchen scraps with dry browns is the right fix but you gotta keep the ratio right. Two parts browns to one part greens, especially in heat. Also, pile needs to breathe. I turn mine every 3 days when it gets over 90.
