One comment from a local green builder made me redo my whole home retrofit plan
Tbh, I was set on triple-pane windows for my 1940s place in Portland until he said my walls would sweat and rot before I ever saw the payoff. I dropped to double-pane with better insulation in the attic instead, saved $3,800, and now I'm wondering what other common upgrades folks here have been talked out of.

The same thing happened with my old house in Pittsburgh. Local HVAC guy talked me out of a fancy heat pump and into a simple mini-split setup for the rooms I actually use, saved me a bundle and the house stays comfortable. Sometimes the boring, basic answer is the right one, especially with older homes that have their own quirks.
