PSA: A lot of people think recycling is the main climate fix, but it's way down the list.

I keep hearing folks at work talk about recycling like it's the biggest thing they can do. The EPA's waste hierarchy shows reducing what you buy comes first, then reusing, and recycling is third. What's one small thing you've done to cut down on buying new stuff?

Oh man, mending is great, but that's actually reusing, not reducing! For real reduction, I stopped buying bottled water completely. I just refill the same metal bottle every single day.

Exactly. I just mend my old clothes now.

Started cutting back on buying new stuff by switching to bar soap instead of body wash in plastic bottles. Simple change but it REALLY adds up over time. @clark.iris mending clothes is such a good skill to have, I can barely sew a button back on straight. My grandma used to darn socks like it was nothing, and she lived through the Depression so she knew how to make things LAST. Now I just feel guilty every time I toss a shirt with a tear in it.
