Remember when people said electric cars were just for show?
Back in 2015, I was sure they were a fad that would fade. What changed my mind was seeing the numbers from my own city's power grid report last year. It showed a 30% drop in local transport emissions since 2018, and the main reason listed was the rise in EV registrations. Now my neighbor, who fixes old trucks for fun, just bought a used Nissan Leaf for his daily commute. Has anyone else had a moment where the data made a belief you held just fall apart?

Wow, I was totally in the "just a rich person's toy" camp for years. Then I saw how cheap the charging cost is compared to gas on my buddy's monthly bills. It's hard to argue with real savings like that.

Exactly, @noahjenkins, the savings really do add up fast.

Right, the math just hits different when you see it on paper. My neighbor did the switch last year and he's been bragging about his $40 monthly "fuel" bill ever since. Meanwhile I'm dropping like $70 a week at the pump and it stings every time. I still can't get over how quiet they are though, that part freaks me out a little. But yeah, hard to argue with those savings when you're actually living it.
