Serious question, is it better to push for big policy changes or focus on local community projects?

I was at a town hall meeting in Boise last month about a new recycling program. One person argued we need to pressure state lawmakers for stricter laws, while another said we should just start a neighborhood compost co-op now. The debate got pretty heated. I left feeling stuck between these two ways of doing things. Which approach do you think gets real results faster?

@gavin_kim3's park cleanup story is a good example. Do you think those local wins actually build enough pressure to change bigger laws, or do they just let lawmakers off the hook?

Those local wins letting lawmakers off the hook" is the part that gets me. We had a small food drive in our neighborhood that somehow turned into the mayor showing up and promising funding for a community garden, then nothing changed at the city level for two years.

That Boise debate reminds me of our local park cleanup, which actually led to a city grant for more green spaces.
