Showerthought: my neighbor's kid thinks recycling trucks are magic

I was at the park in Austin yesterday and overheard a little girl tell her friend the blue truck 'eats the boxes and poops out new toys.' It made me realize we never explain the actual process to people, just the sorting rules. Has anyone found a good way to show kids where their stuff actually goes after the bin?

That tour is a real eye opener, makes you think about all the stuff we just toss out. My cousin works at a place that makes park benches from recycled plastic bags. Kind of wild to think your grocery bags could end up as a seat somewhere. Makes you want to be more careful about what goes in which bin.

My kid went on that tour last year and was totally amazed by the sorting machines.
