Appreciation post: The old timer who made me question my tool offsets

Last month I had a stubborn part that kept coming out 0.003 inches oversize on the bore. I was ready to blame the insert and the holder, but this retired guy watching me said to check my tool nose radius offset in the control. I brushed him off at first, figured I had set it right years ago and never looked back. He walked me through comparing the actual insert radius to what was in the offset table, and sure enough, it was off by a hair. After 17 years of running CNCs, I finally learned to verify that every time I switch inserts. Has anyone else had a simple setting like that sneak up on them after a long time?
